Fig. S1. Fatty acid transport protein (FATP) expression in kidneys of chow and HFD-fed rats. Changes in fatty acid transport protein expression (FATP 1-4) in the cortico-medullary section of kidneys from lean chow-fed (white bars) or HFD-fed DIOres (light grey bars) or DIOsens (black bars) rats. Expression levels for individual genes were normalized to the geometric average of the respective housekeeping gene hypoxanthine guanine phosphoribosyl transferase 1 (HPRT-1). Mean relative FATP1 expression in chow-fed rats was defined as 1.0 and relative expression of all other FATPs was normalized to this reference value. Values are given as mean ± SEM. Significant differences were analyzed by using One-Way ANOVA and Bonferroni Multiple Comparison Post Tests, and indicated as **** p<0.001 vs. FATP2 chow-fed controls.

Fig. S2. Tubules with simple and atypical hyperplasia in diet induced obese rats revealed active mTOR-S6K signaling. (A) Representative image of single cell phospho-S6 ribosomal protein (pS6RP) staining (black arrow) in the kidney section of a chow-fed control rat indicates low levels of intrinsic mTOR-S6K signaling. (B) In contrast, multiple proliferating pS6RP-positive tubules in a kidney section of a DIOsens rat suggest massively increased mTOR-S6K signaling in tubules with hyperplastic or atypical phenotype.
