Disease Models & Mechanisms (DMM) is an online author-pays Open Access international biomedical research journal. It is published by The Company of Biologists, a not-for-profit publishing organisation dedicated to supporting and inspiring the biological community. DMM was launched in late 2008 with the aim of connecting and promoting communication among disease researchers, a broad scientific community that has traditionally been diffused across many different disease- and organism-specific journals. DMM also aims to promote the development of ideas, projects and collaborations among basic researchers, translational scientists and clinicians to support the growing translational emphasis in basic research.
DMM is edited by expert researchers in the field, with the support of a large international academic Editorial Board; all articles are subject to rigorous single-blind peer review. In addition to primary Research and Resource articles, DMM also publishes commissioned Reviews and ‘At a Glance’ poster articles aimed at synthesising the latest advances in a particular branch of translational research, as well as ‘A Model for Life’ interviews and thought-provoking Editorials. For more information on publishing in DMM, please visit our submission, article types and journal policies pages.
All articles published in DMM are published under an Open Access model: the journal’s costs are covered primarily by article publication charges (rather than subscription fees). Therefore, we ask that authors of Research and Resource articles pay a publication charge of £2500 per article (plus VAT if applicable).
DMM offers advance online posting of accepted articles on its Advance Articles site and issues are published monthly online. All articles are deposited in PMC by the publisher for immediate release.

Supporting our community
DMM aspires to connect and support members of the disease research community, including clinician scientists, basic researchers and trainees. The journal aims to achieve this not only by publishing carefully selected content, but also through other means, such as sponsoring international meetings. In addition, DMM supports younger researchers in the community through its Travelling Fellowship program, offering up to £2500 to graduate students and post-docs who wish to make collaborative visits to other laboratories. The Company of Biologists, the publisher of DMM, sponsors numerous meetings and workshops in the field, including Keystone Symposia, Gordon Conferences and EMBO workshops. DMM itself also sponsors speakers to attend international meetings.
All DMM's content is available online, and is fully browsable and searchable. All DMM papers are published as Open Access articles under the CC-BY licence. All articles are deposited by DMM in PMC for immediate release.
DMM is also a participant of the LOCKSS/CLOCKSS project, an international community initiative through which libraries and publishers work together to preserve their digital content for the long-term.
